Join ADF for Fly By Design Japan

An exclusive small-group tour experience on March 11-18, 2018

Experience the foundation of Japanese architecture – an understanding of the natural world as a source of spiritual insight and an instructive mirror of human emotion. Tour Tokyo’s Omotesando district, known as one of the foremost ‘architectural showcase’ streets in the world, as well as the elegance of the Ginza district. Visit the ‘art island’ of Naoshima, which brings contemporary art and architecture in resonance with the pristine nature of the Seto Inland Sea.

Itinerary and details

ADF has traditionally introduced internationally-known architects, artists and designers to an Alaskan audience through its annual lecture series each year. With FLY BY DESIGN, we export the audience to see the work in real dimensions. We host travelers in locations around the world, connecting them to new places through architecture and design.

THE EXHIBITION

<META/ANC> is a research project that uses the Municipality of Anchorage as a case study of northern urban planning and design. The Alaska Design Forum mapped the existing housing stock in the Municipality of Anchorage (MOA) to mine for insight about:

  • historic settlement patterns
  • current land use
  • planning opportunities for future growth

The project illustrates a variety of data points individually and in combination to elicit viewer response, narratives and conclusions.

<META/ANC> will be exhibited September 22-24 at the Anchorage Museum as part of Anchorage Design Week. Look for it in the Chipperfield stair lobby (by the main entrance).

THE SYMPOSIUM

Saturday September 23rd, 4-6pm, 4th floor of museum

The Alaska Design Forum will host a symposium to discuss housing in Anchorage, with the goal of envisioning positive change.
